I don't write journals often, but this is something that I feel the need to express my feelings on.
In case you didn't know, the MLP:FiM episode "The Last Roundup" was taken down shortly after airing last week, and was put back up last night. There were some changes that have the fans of Derpy Hooves in a sort of uproar.
Me? I'm quietly heartbroken. I loved and connected to Derpy in ways that a lot of people did.
I'm a massive klutz, often becoming more of a nuisance than anything else when I try to help people.
I have an eye condition which used to give me headaches whenever I would try to read or drive long distances. The problem is that my eyes don't quite follow each other as well as they should. The doctor called it a "tracking" problem; my friends and I jokingly called it a "derpy" problem, as it is basically a less-exaggerated form of the popular internet meme of "derping." I found Derpy's eyes to be adorable, and connected to her in this aspect as well.
In the re-release of the episode, Derpy's eyes are fixed, and her name is not said by Rainbow Dash (as it had been in the original release). They also changed her voice, but I actually don't mind that. Her VA mistakenly did a male voice, as she thought Derpy was a boy. I don't mind the voice change at all- I actually prefer it.
What breaks my heart is the removal of Derpy's eye derp and her name.
What am I going to do about this? Not much. I'm going to keep calling her Derpy Hooves- whether her name is stated in canon or not makes no difference to what I'm going to call her. I may write a calm, thought out letter to Hasbro requesting that they reconsider, but I very strongly suspect it will do no good. Hasbro has proven to be cowardly troll-feeders with this edit.
I'm going to continue calling Derpy Hooves Derpy Hooves.
I'm just heartbroken that Hasbro took her away from us in canon.
I may even make a couple Derpy Hooves and a Doctor Whooves plushies, and take pictures of them going on fabulous adventures. Maybe.
I have to figure out how the hell to thread the bobbin on my sewing machine, though. I don't know how but they managed to make it downright confusing. I'd go back to using my mom's dinosaur of a machine, but it finally pooped out the last time I tried using it.
